JANUARY 2012 HIGHLIGHTS
2012 got off a to a great start with several great parties, one of our favorite visiting coaches and a truly big “finish” to the month.
The parties included a wild Russian Xmas Party, complete with Russian food, drinks (did someone say “vodka?”), Kalinka dancing and more. That was followed by a fabulous and successful Guest Party, where we welcomed new students George & Melissa Wood, Agnieszka Swirsszcz, Jan & Peter Grossman and Wendy Gussack. Thanks to the more than 50 people who came by and big thanks to those who brought guests – including Fred & Gail Newcomb, Greg Swirsszcz, Rich & Carol Mintzer and George Wood, who brought half of his family with him. Awesome! And let’s not forget the Gala Party, which was held at the Yonkers studio in January. Thanks to all of our attendees.
January also saw Yuliya & Andrei win 2nd place at the Northeastern Championships in Professional American Rhythm, and another productive day with visiting professional, Tony Meredith – be sure to watch for his next visit and sign up.
And finally, our “big finish” to the month was to our Dance floor, which was completely refinished, along with beautiful new tiling in the ladies room and a complete studio dust cleanup. Whew! Things are looking great now and we appreciate all of your help in keeping our new floor clean, dry and scratch free by wearing only dance or formal shoes (for the men) and always using heel guards (for the ladies).
FEBRUARY: “EXHIBILA! (Show her off!)”
That’s just one of the many “calls” performed during the wild dancing craze that’s sweeping the country, called Salsa Rueda. And it all comes to our studio starting this month. Rueda is an exciting and fun Group Salsa dance where pairs of dancers form a circle and dynamically exchange partners and dance steps when called out by a leader. Group classes for this terrific dance are every Tuesday evening at 8:15pm. You’ve GOT to try this out.
FEBRUARY 10: MINI-ME, MINI-YOU & MINI-WARMUP
Friday Feb 10 is our next Mini-Competition at the White Plains Studio and everyone should plan to be there – to compete, cheer or just watch. This is a great event where you can experience all of the fun of a Dancesport Competition without the anxiety of a huge unknown crowd. We’re all friends here, and it’s a great chance to practice your short competitive dance routines before your fellow students.
And it’s a great warm-up for those who like to enter the big competitions throughout the year, like the WORLD DANCE-O-RAMA in NYC on MARCH 21-25 (be sure to let
us know if you plan to attend, even for the Saturday Night dinner – their deadline is
fast approaching!)
FEBRUARY 17: LOVE TO SEE YOU V-DAY PARTY
Dress sexy. Dance sexy. Eat sexy. Drink sexy. What does that all mean? Whatever you want it to mean, at our Valentine’s Day Party on Friday, Feb 17th from 9-11pm. Hearts and Flowers and Chocolates, and Romantic Dances and Games are all on the menu, so don’t miss it.
MARCH 31: SHOWCASE & MEDAL BALL TIME!
Here’s an early reminder about the big event in March. There’s plenty of time to sign up and work on a showcase dance or a medal accomplishment for the end of March. Join the fun and welcome the start of Spring by participating in this great event. And if you’re a new student or one who hasn’t participated in a Showcase night yet, ask any of your fellow students about how much fun these events are, and check with your instructor about your dancing goals today!
